Study Design: Review article.
Objectives: This study aims to present the current treatment options for idiopathic scoliosis Summary of Literature Review: The treatment options for idiopathic scoliosis are largely categorized into 3 groups (observation, a brace, and surgery), and the choice is made with consideration of the patient¡¯s maturity and the characteristics of the curvature.
Materials and Methods: A review of the previous literature was done and the current consensus on idiopathic scoliosis was summarized.
Results: The most frequently used surgical method is the posterior approach and fusion. Consideration of the postoperative shoulder and body balance is important with preserving mobile segments. The growth-sparing surgical technique using a growing rod can be applied in patients with early-onset scoliosis and remaining growth.
Conclusions: The treatment for idiopathic scoliosis should be based on the patient¡¯s age and the characteristics of the curvature.
